“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day. You shall begin it serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
This strikes me as super healthy advice.
Kick ass. Or try to kick ass. Some days you’ll serve up aces. Most days you won’t.
Either way, move on. No gloating. No coasting. No doubting or blaming or self pity…
Rest on the pillow of your honest efforts. Truly rest. Don’t relive today. Don’t pre-live tomorrow.
Arise early in the morning hungry and optimistic. Start fresh!
Rabbit, Rabbit
The image above started as a heavy metal (cast iron?) doorstop; repeatedly painted, cracked, and peeled; mottled with rust; and tucked inconspicuously into the corner of a screen porch at a B&B in Kennebunkport, Maine where I spent a pair of playful days this summer.
I’m pretty certain that it represents a hare, but this morning I’m exercising poetic license (blogger’s license?) and transforming this time-pocked bounder into a not-so-velveteen rabbit. Rabbit, rabbit!
Growing up I learned to say “Rabbit, rabbit,” first thing on the first day of each month for good luck. Before, “Good morning.” Or, “I’ll be right there…” If we could remember to say “Rabbit, rabbit” before we uttered anything else we could expect plenty of luck for a month. Sounds a bit like rising early, hungry and optimistic, right? Welcome to September, friend. It’s time to start fresh. Good luck.
